The DOMUS project is a 1:50 scale construction of an imaginary 14th century aristocratic palace, chronicled by the author on the blog of the same name. This book, the first in the series, collects the chapters concerning the construction of the basement, from the concrete base to the cellar vaults, entirely revised and enriched with new graphic and textual content. The assembly of walls, arches, vaults and all the other elements is described page by page as in a real diary, making this book a valuable tool for those who want to try their hand at their own project, or simply observe the construction site from a vantage point. A total of 150 pages with over 500 images including photos, graphic elaborations and original drawings by the author. Now on Amazon. Construction Site, Architecture House

While waiting for the long-awaited proof to arrive (from which I'll decide if it's worthy to rely on Amazon KDP or if I'll have to find an alternative way), I get out from the Domus archives the draft for the book cover, used to make the final version. And to start the New Year with a good news, I announce you that in the coming days I'll try to convince the master builder to organize a live work session on Facebook or Youtube. I already know that at first he'll say no, that it's undignified, that he's not an acrobat or a traveling actor, and the secrets of the trade must remain as such. I'll try anyway. If you can think of any arguments I can use to break through that thick skull of his, let me know! Youtube, Alternative, Book Cover, Book Art, Cover, Art Of Living, Proof, Waiting, The Day Will Come

Today I'd like to show you a recent purchase made to improve the efficiency of my construction site. Since I started using slate and other stones for the construction of the Domus, I've always cut them with manual tools such as PLIERS or a HACKSAW. Then I got the DREMEL power tool. However, I kept having difficulty when cutting larger blocks, especially when stones are harder than slate and can't be split using their layers. The next logical step was to purchase an electric cutting tool... Power, Cutting Tools, Tile Saw

The circle test
Here is a trick to check the regularity of the shaft of a column during making. In this case the diameter should be 15 millimeters, but my circuligraph (or "circometer") has only 14 and 16 holes. I'll have to reduce the circumference a little more. The striped column, made with marble and slate, is an element for my next piece, soon on Etsy!
