Neurodivergent overlap is often discussed. There will be many times when individuals meet the criteria for two, three or more neurodivergent conditions. However, frequently, individuals don't fit neatly in to these boxes and there may be an overlap of traits which don't meet more than one criterion. It can be disappointing to feel part of your identity isn't being recognised, the right clinician will have explored your complex neurodiversity within the relevant regulatory constraints, validate your experience and explain your diagnostic outcome to you so that this makes sense. This is such a large factor in addressing sensory differences, mental health difficulties or barriers to neurodivergent individuals engaging in meaningful occupations. It will impact intervention planning, support strategies and psychoeducation, as what works in school may not be suitable at home, or at horse riding practice. Consider your environment, is it supportive? Does your masking vary not just because of the people you are with but because of what you feel is expected of you within that environment?
