AHS Fun Fact: The Axeman is based on a real serial killer that terrorized New Orleans from May 1918 to October 1919. The letter read at the beginning of the last episode was actually an excerpt of a real one published in newspapers on March 13, 1919. As portrayed in the episode, jazz was played at hundreds of parties around town the night of his threat, though no one was murdered that evening. The Axeman’s true identity was never discovered.
